Job Club started off as a small project when I was on the lookout for a new job -taking inspiration from the idea of Remote Jobs Club. As a Ruby on Rails developer, I was signing up to a few different job sites and doing the daily check of the different sites to see what new postings had been made. This could be a timely process, so I looked to see how this could be automated, amongst other things (which are in the pipeline).
Job Club started off as a small project when I was on the lookout for a new job. It was a combination of a coding test for an interview, which became playing with an idea -taking inspiration from the idea of Remote Jobs Club. As a Ruby on Rails developer, I was signing up to a few different job sites and doing the daily check of the different sites to see what new postings had been made. This could be a timely process, so I looked to see how this could be automated.
Not long after starting Job Club, a job opportunity came up and progress came to a halt. But, the idea was still always in the back of my mind.
After a couple of months in the job, I was on the train to work and noticed all the job alert emails that I was still signed up to, and oddly getting emails from mailing lists I never subscribed to. It was then that I decided to open up the code editor again.
I've got plenty ideas and can’t launch them all at once., I'm working on features that I would find useful, and how that they will benefit on your job seeking journey too.
For now, I'm starting off with listings of UK based roles, from a few of the popular job sites covering tech related job markets. , I plan to include all job markets, from all over the world.
I don’t have any plans to charge for any services to those looking for jobs, it’s never been the goal. Yes, I’d like this to generate some revenue, but hope to do this through some sort of sponsorship, relevant featured content or with paid listings. If any job seeking features prove to be a success, and there’s will to pay for them, then that’s something to consider. There will always be bills and costs to be met. The goal is to pay them, and anything extra can help me code up new things for Job Club. I WILL NOT be selling any of your data to anyone. Any metrics used will be generic. Job Club will not be selling out your job seeking activities.
